ACE Weekly Update -- May 27th, 2017
What's Coming Up: May 29th - June 2nd
Semester Start Dates: The adult education & certification class session starts June 2nd. The college semester starts May 31st.
Summer Schedules: By now, you should have your full class schedule for the summer semester, including a weekly coaching appointment. If you have questions about your schedule, please contact your coach!
Securing Classes: If you are in your first college semester and applied for the 5 for 6 scholarship, you might have received emails last week saying that your classes were not secured. This scholarship was processed on Friday, so your classes should now be secured. Check your email to see if you've received updates.
Tip for the Week Before School: Want to be sure you start your new classes on the right foot? Make sure you know where to find your classrooms (this map might help), plan what school supplies you'll need to stay organized (folders? binder?) and get any required textbooks.
Textbook Scholarship: We have a very limited number of copies of the textbooks for CCSS, Medical Terminology, and ServSafe available to loan to students who apply for an ACE Textbook Scholarship. If you're interested, please ask your coach how to apply.
Check Your Technology Skills

Do you know how your computer skills stack up? We highly encourage all students to take a digital literacy assessment each semester. This will help you and your coach strategize how to expand your skills. There are two ways to take the assessment. (Please note: All new Information Technology students must take this assessment in person in order to qualify for the Adobe Illustrator certification course.)
To take the assessment in person, please come to Bldg 7, Room 170 at the City Park campus at 1PM on May 31st and Josh will show you how to take the test using the school computers.
To take the assessment online, follow the following steps:
Enter your first and last name
Take module 1, 2, & 3A. Feel free to take other modules in addition if you like.
You can save your scores in any way you like (eg. by taking a screen shot, printing, etc). Your coach will be able to access your scores online.
eLearn: Online Adult Ed

Did you know that you can take adult education classes online instead of in-person if you like? Online classes aren't right for everyone since they require great time management and focus, but for some students (especially those with very busy or unpredictable schedules), they can be a good fit. Our eLearn program is very impressive, with lots of teacher-student contact, student interaction, and even special eLearn coaches. Click here to learn more.
Interested students can apply online Monday 5/29 through Wednesday 5/31 ONLY. After that, eLearn will close applications and will re-open in a few months.
Student Book Club

Delgado's Adult Education Program will be hosting its first book club during the upcoming class session! It will meet for one hour per week to chat about what's being read. These meetings will take place at the City Park campus, but students from all sites will be welcome to attend. Interested? Please fill out this survey about your interests and days/times that would work for you.
Hurricane season is here. Remember to sign up for Delgado Alerts to receive notification of unplanned campus closures! http://www.dcc.edu/student-services/e2campus/
