What is ACE?

The Accelerated Career Education (ACE) program at Delgado Community College integrates basic skills with career and technical instruction. ACE includes a set of certification and credit classes that are co-taught by an adult basic skills instructor and a career content instructor based on the I-BEST model.

Pathways in Healthcare, Technical Trades, Culinary Arts/Hospitality, and Information Technology are available to all interested individuals ages 18 and up who would benefit from enhanced academic and student support as they enter college.

Earn industry-based certifications and college credits towards your degree.

Develop valuable academic and professional success skills.

Earn your high school equivalency (HiSET) through co-enrollment in the Adult Education Program.

Benefit from wrap-around academic and student support services.

Explore academic and professional opportunities.

What classes will I take while I'm in ACE?

In ACE, all students are required to take both an English and a Math course in Adult Education. Additional courses (i.e. Computer basics, Citizenship, etc.) are also available, but not required.

Additional required courses taken are dependent on the pathway chosen by the student.
Technical, Culinary, and Information Technology pathways all require a passing score in a Certification course (NCCER, ServSafe, and IC3, respectively) in order to move on to college credit courses. Healthcare students are not required to complete a certification course, and will be placed in college credit courses for their first semester.

How do I know what textbooks I'll need, and where can I get them?

Textbooks for college courses may be found via the Delgado website (dcc.edu) by clicking the services and resources tab at the top of the webpage, and then clicking bookstore. Books may be found by searching the actual course name and number or by ISBN. Books are available for rent, as used, or brand new. Another way of knowing which text is required is to check the syllabus given by the instructor.

Students may utilize services other than the campus bookstore such as Ebay, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc. to acquire books.

Hint: If utilizing other searches/services, please ensure that the correct edition of the textbook is selected! Copying and searching using the ISBN rather than the book title can assist with reducing this mistake!

Why would I want to keep taking adult education classes if I already have my high school diploma or equivalency?

Even if a student already has their high school diploma or equivalency, he/she should still utilize adult ed classes to be considered for exit exams.
By taking and passing exit exams, students can avoid having to take remedial classes (non-credit courses) on the college level.
*NOTE* Students should check their course of study to determine if basic English and Math courses are required.
