This well-designed site is a great starting point for your career research and it’s focused specifically on the Greater New Orleans job market.  Not sure what career you want? Take these self-assessments to help you figure out what career fits your interests, skills, and values. Got a career (or a few) in mind?  Click on “Career Exploration” to read detailed information about each career, watch a video, and even to see who’s hiring in your area.  Wondering what job will let you live the lifestyle you want?  Click on “Fiscal Literacy” to see how much you’d need to earn to have the budget you want.  Ready to start your training? Click “Colleges & Training” to see what schools in your area can prepare you for your career.

This site offers many of the same features as Headed2.  It’s not as pretty, but it does let you look up the licenses your state might require for your profession, and it will let you search for apprenticeship and certification opportunities.

Occupational Outlook Handbook

This is another helpful career research site, though it’s not specific to the New Orleans region.  This one’s great for comparing related jobs.  For example, if you’re interested in healthcare but you don’t know what healthcare job fits you, this site lets you compare the pay, educational requirements, and job descriptions of different jobs.  Completely unsure what you’re interested in?  Use the “Select Occupations By…” tool to search for jobs with a certain income or educational requirement.
