ACE Weekly Update -- May 19th, 2017

What's Coming Up: May 22nd - 26th

We're excited to be working with you to get ready for the new semester!

  • Coaching meetings continue next week! By now, you should've met with a coach to begin preparing for the new semester. You and that coach will meet again next week to schedule adult education classes and discuss college technology skills.

  • Before your second coaching meeting, please do the following homework:

  • HW #1: Prepare to make a new adult education schedule. We recommend that you fill in a time manager sheet like this one or create a digital calendar (eg. a Google calendar or phone calendar) to show your college or certification classes and other commitments so you'll be ready to sign up for adult education classes.

  • HW #2: Complete the College Knowledge Scavenger Hunt. If you lost your sheet, you can print a new one here. Delgado's Student Handbook and website, the Student Support Site should be helpful!

  • HW #3: New college students, please complete the steps described in the College Student Corner below.

  • Continuing students: Exit exam results are in. To review your results and plan next steps, please set an "Exit Exam Review" appointment with Josh through the student support website.

College Student Corner:

  • Summer college classes are more intense than college classes during a spring or fall semester. They tend to meet more often or for longer hours, and you'll need to allow plenty of time to study throughout the week. If you're not sure whether you can manage the summer college class schedule, we understand. Please just talk with your coach about options.

  • The college semester begins on Weds. May 31st, which means classes start that day unless you don't have Wednesday classes.

  • Not sure where to find your classrooms? Check out the campus maps in the DCC Student Handbook here.

  • As a college student, you have a DCC email address. If you're new to college, you might not know how to access that email account yet. See "New to college?" below. Make a habit of checking your college email at least a few times a week!

  • Did you know that you can get your college emails on your phone by downloading and setting up the free Outlook app? Try it and ask you're coaching if you need help.

  • New to college? Make sure to complete the following steps to be on track:

  • Complete the online freshman orientation here. NOTE: You do NOT need to sign up for a placement test, so please ignore that part.

  • Click here to learn how to log in to your DCC email and Canvas (the college's learning management system where many of your teachers will post homework, tests, and grades).

  • If you have any questions about setting up your email or using Canvas, please talk with your coach next week.
